JUNIOR PRIMARY - Gr 1 - Gr 3
Curriculum
Hartford College is a small independent Primary School. Our small classes, enables teachers to have a very hands-on approach to each child’s learning. This three year phase (Gr.1-3) is important in teaching essential concepts of reading, writing and arithmetic which are the building blocks of all future learning. We follow a CAPS curriculum, which is further enriched with a strong focus on mathematics and natural science.
We believe that there should be a partnership between parents and educators, in order to enhance a child’s success.
Success is achieved in the all-round development of the child’s physical, emotional, moral and academic self, which is guided in a gentle fashion.
Our older more experienced teachers are there to ensure that your child has the very best start to these formative school years.
Religious Education
Hartford College does not teach religious studies. In the diverse and multicultural society that we live in, we believe that it is the choice and responsibility of parents to guide their child’s spiritual development. We do however teach universally accepted morals and values programme, which we hope will help guide children’s decisions and choices.
Environmental Awareness
As a member of WESSA eco schools programme, we aim to give our learners a deep sense of respect and love of the natural environment. Every week, a new aspect of nature is studied and discussed. The children visit the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve on a regular basis, with their class teacher and a field guide. Each term the school has an environmental focus, from collecting plastic for recycling to supporting the owl project.
